PATH BY BICYCLE. HOTEL FUERTE GRAZALEMA - LLANOS DEL REPUBLICANO - VILLALUENGA
|
|
Difficulty and duration: Medium. 2 hours. (45 min to the Casa de Patalagana and back). Departure point: Hotel Fuerte Grazalema. Distance 22 km. (10 km. to Casa de Patalagana and back). Description: it is one of the best mountain bike routes which can be enjoyed in the Natural Park of Grazalema. 100% cyclable, the first zone runs in front of various country houses between pines and cork trees and immediately we will reach the ample plain of Los Terrazgos where we cross the River Campobuche or Gaduares. We can pedal along a track with continuous but soft rises and falls in which, if we glance over our shoulders, a splendid view of the principal and highest mountains of the area will appear.

To the left La Sierra del Edrinal with the summit of El Reloj (1.535 m.) and to the right, La Sierra del Pinar with El Cerro de San Cristóbal (1.525 m). The track finishes in La Casa de Patagalana. To reach it, we have had to cross El Acornocal de las Animas, where blackbirds, warblers, fly catchers and other small birds entertain us on our route with their songs. For those who think that we have made enough effort, it is probably the best point to turn round and head back to the hotel but not before seeing the magnificent view of Los Llanos del Republicano which opens out before us in a southerly direction. Those who wish to complete the full trip will continue along Los Llanos always keeping to the left as a reference point La Sierra de Líbar and Los Montes de la Mesa to the right. These are formed by limestone and sandstone respectively which is the reason for the presence of oaks and cork trees, species of trees which live in one or the other land. Los Llanos del Republicano constitute a blind valley in which the water fallen over the adjacent mountain ranges are collected by the Sima del Republicano. Our route by Los Llanos is done following some clearly marked trackings on the plain until reaching a new track. From here we start the ascent of El Puerto de la Mesa, leaving to the left, the access of various country houses which are dedicated to cattle breeding. |

Again we enter a dense corktree-wood in which the Blue nuthatch is the main species of the ornithological route and can be found all along it. We can also find an information panel before reaching the summit. At this point, La sierra del Caíllo with the summit of El Navazo Alto (1.395 m.) appears before us. We have now in front of us a pronounced descent which will take us to the village of Villaluega del Rosario. This is the highest (872 m.) and least populated (650 inhabitants) village of the province of Cádiz. It is worth making a stop in the journey to visit the village. Its old bull ring with a quadrangular surface area is especially curious. We return back to the hotel by the narrow road which leads to Grazalema under the rocky headlands of the Sierra del Edrinal. There is a slight trace at the beginning until reaching el Puerto de Pedro Ruiz and later a long descent until the Puerto de los Alamillos.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Always use a helmet. Be careful, especially in the descents. Always close the gates we open. Respect the animals and plants. Take care for possible trekkers we may encounter. |
