A businessman and a psychiatrist, winners of the “Miradas” (Glances) exhibition, organised by Grupo El Fuerte
The winners will enjoy a weekend for two at any of the hotels belonging to the chain

A jury made up of the painter Ricardo Alario and the art critic José Manuel Sanjuán has selected the works of the psychiatrist Odila Guanel and the businessman Luis Vázquez as winners of the ‘Miradas’ exhibition, in oil painting and photographic composition, respectively.
Opened on the 5th of October at the Hotel El Fuerte in Marbella as part of the amateur and professional exhibition ‘Por amor al arte’ (For the Love of Art), the exhibition takes in the works of well-known artistically skilled doctors, business people and management.
The winners will enjoy a weekend for two at any of the hotels belonging to the chain and they’ll also be given the chance to exhibit again in 2008.
The two prize-winning pieces will become the property of the Fuerte Foundation (Fundación Fuerte), which uses social and cultural projects to collaborate in solving problems in its social surroundings.
‘Por amor al arte’
‘Por amor al arte’ (For the Love of Art) is one of the cultural activities linked to the Grupo El Fuerte’s 50th Birthday celebrations and comes within a new drive from professionals from different areas striving for greater quality and diffusion of cultural events in Marbella.
The professional exhibition is the work of the Marbellan painter Ricardo Alario, with his work ‘Primigenio’. The exhibition represents the first vestiges of primitive societies and how these origins have evolved in art throughout the ages. According to Ricardo Alario, “It represents the human capacity for being amazed by beauty, colour and shape as the beginning of all subsequent creation”.
Ricardo Alario began painting in Marbella under the tutelage of the painter San Juan Perdiguero and attended the School of Arts and Trades at Seville and Granada. In 2003 he was named Director of the Silvart Gallery where he has co-ordinated several engraving workshops using the latest techniques, and trained many young artists who have gone on to obtain degrees in Fine Arts. He has also shown great creativity as a graphic designer and muralist. .

Grupo El Fuerte currently has six hotels in Spain in Marbella, Conil, El Rompido and Grazalema, a hotel in the Mayan Riviera, and the Hotel Secrets Montego Bay, Jamaica, is underway. The Interior Design Studio EID, created to meet the demand from Fuerte Hoteles, also belongs to the Group. 50th Birthday
In 2007, Grupo El Fuerte is celebrating its 50th Birthday, and to mark the occasion it’s holding weekly cocktail parties in the Group’s hotels. There have also been two organ concerts, on the 15th of June and the 28th of September in the Iglesia de la Encarnación Church, Marbella, as well as the creation and promotion of the Friends of the Sol Mayor Organ Association by the cultural area of the Fuerte Foundation. There was a party on the 4th of July at the Hotel El Fuerte and a painting exhibition ‘Por amor al arte’ (For the Love of Art), in October. The Group has also published a book recounting its history and that of Marbella.
In December, Fuerte Cultural will be announcing all of the new exhibitions and cultural events that will be taking place in support of local artists and projects related to the history of Marbella and its surroundings
