Golden Medal for Merit in the Workplace
Isabel María García Bardón receives the Golden Medal for Merit in the Workplace from the Regional Autonomous Government of Andalusia.
The President of Grupo El Fuerte received the Award in Seville yesterday

The President of Grupo El Fuerte, Isabel María García Bardón, last night received the Golden Medal for Merit in the Workplace from the Regional Autonomous Government of Andalusia’s Councillor for Employment, Antonio Fernández, at an event held at the Reales Atarazanas in Seville.
This award, given by the Ministry of Employment, at the proposal of the Directorate General for Work and Social Security, rewards the merits, actions, extraordinary service and careers of outstanding workers, professionals and groups within the field of labour relations in Andalusia. These individuals and Groups provide a model for conduct in the workplace, and contribute to social and economic development within the Community.
After receiving the award, Isabel García dedicated a few words of gratitude and confessed to being so delighted mainly because she had been honoured by the company, “by my Grupo El Fuerte”. The President expressed her gratitude “to life, the love of my children, who have been my driving force, to Marbella, not to mention my town Estepa, and to those who have worked with me and without whom this company could not have grown, and would not have reached its 50th birthday”.
The continuation of a dream.
The widow of José Luque Manzano - who in 1957 founded Hotel el Fuerte, the Group’s first residence in Marbella- Isabel María García Bardón (Estepa, 1939) decided to continue, together with her five children, working on the projects left by her husband when he passed away in 1984.
Whilst up until that point she had focused on bringing up her family, she took on a major role within the company and with the backing of her children, took on the extension and renovation of the hotel between 1987 and 1992. Later, Fuerte Conil (Cadiz, 1999), Fuerte Miramar-SPA (Marbella, 2001), Fuerte Grazalema (Grazalema, 2002), Fuerte Costa Luz (Conil de la Frontera, 2004), Hotel Sunscape Puerto Aventuras (2004, Mayan Riviera) and Hotel Fuerte El Rompido (Huelva, 2005) were opened.
For the past twenty years, Isabel García has also presided over the Asociación Horizonte, she is a founding member of the Andalusian Association for Family Business and devotes much of her time to the Fuerte Foundation, an initiative set up in 2004 with the aim of managing Grupo El Fuerte’s wish to help in solving problems within its social surroundings.
