First ecological kitchen garden in Marbella

The Fuerte Miramar has become the first hotel in Marbella to have an ecological kitchen garden, as part of the Fuerte Hoteles program to create this type of cultivated land. Fuerte Miramar has now begun the task of creating their garden, and they have already planted tomatoes, peppers, courgettes, aubergines, pumpkins, sweet corn, watermelons and beans.
The garden takes up an area of approximately 10 square metres and planting was begun last Tuesday, the 9th of June. The first crops were planted by the hotel's maintenance team, but from now on any of the hotel's guests that are interested in ecological agriculture will be given the opportunity to harvest the crops and sow new ones.

Fuerte Hoteles is committed to environmental integrity and to a type of agriculture that respects its surroundings. Proof of this can be seen in the creation of ecological kitchen gardens at several of the chain's hotels like Fuerte Conil, Fuerte Costa Luz, Fuerte Rompido Suites, Fuerte Grazalema and now the Fuerte Miramar.
The Andalusian hotel chain runs guided tours of all the ecological kitchen gardens to spread the word about their initiative. These tours provide a brief explanation about how the garden is planted and cared for. Youngsters are given the chance to plant and harvest the garden's products with the help of their parents, turning their holidays into something that is both educational and fun.
The seasonal species that are planted in the Fuerte Miramar's kitchen garden will start to grow into small plants that will eventually bear fruit and vegetables with the most authentic and natural flavours possible.
The earth in the Fuerte Miramar's kitchen garden is fertilised with compost (natural fertiliser), which is produced in the hotels themselves from the waste that is generated by gardening work. Fuerte Hoteles has set up composting areas on all of their properties, where vegetable waste is reused for the production of organic fertiliser. This is an environmentally acceptable solution when compared with the abusive use of different types of chemical fertilisers. This technology provides an alternative to others that are not always so respectful towards natural resources and the environment, which also have a higher cost.
