Fuerte Hoteles Golf Open awarded more than €10,000

The Fuerte Rompido Suites Hotel, located in Cartaya in the district of Huelva, hosted the V Fuerte Hoteles Open Golf Championship between the 11th and 13th of June, an annual competition that is sponsored by the Fuerte Hoteles chain and Calaceite Residencial.

Players from many different cities in Spain like Madrid, Granada, Toledo, Salamanca, Bilbao, Algeciras, Barcelona, Malaga and Marbella participated in the fifth edition of this tournament, sharing more than €10,000 euros worth of prizes.


Prize awards

James Byron Campbell took the Scratch prize and won the first category of the tournament, whilst Amador Soria Jiménez and Jesús Sánchez Postigo took the first places in the second and third categories respectively.

This competition was based on the individual Stableford points system. Seven prizes were awarded in each of the three categories, and there were two special prizes for the longest drive (ladies and men) and the closet ball to the flag, as well as a scratch prize.

The Mayor of Cartaya, Mr. Juan Antonio Millán, was invited to the prize-giving ceremony as guest of honour. He made a speech to the participants during the gala cocktail party.

Fuerte Hoteles also joined forces with the El Rompido Golf Club, Campofrío, Embutidos Jabugo-Cuyar, Bodegas Chivite, the Mahou-San Miguel Group, Coca-Cola, Cafés Camelo and Aguas de Lanjarón for this V Open Championship.

El Rompido Golf, created by the designer Álvaro Arana, is the only golf club in the region with 36 holes (the North course and the South course). Its two 18-hole courses are set in the natural landscape formed by the River Piedras wetlands, and they are surrounded by pine and orange groves. The VI Fuerte Hoteles Open Golf Championship will be held between the 9th and 12th of October, 2010.
