Organic Garden. Hotel Fuerte Marbella

Fuerte Hoteles now has an organic garden at each of its establishments. The hotel network has just completed the last link in its organic chain, unveiling a new garden at one of its oldest hotels, Fuerte Marbella.
Located on the first floor western terrace, the recently opened organic garden has already begun to grow the first products of the season. Broad beans, spring onions, cabbages, broccoli, chard, radishes and different types of lettuce are just some of the plants that, together with different aromatic plants such as thyme, rosemary and basil, have been sown as a demonstration of the commitment to agriculture that respects the local environment.
To help client awareness of this initiative, the Andalusian chain organises visits to organic gardens at each of the hotels; here visitors receive a brief explanation of the process of sowing and caring for the garden. Little ones can also take part in the growing process with their parents, sowing and picking certain plants in an activity that is as educational as it is fun. In the words of Joaquín Pineda, Director of Quality and Sustainable Development, this activity, aimed at both children and their parents, is not only "creative and gratifying" but also "allows clients to take part in recuperating and maintaining an agricultural approach that respects the environment".
Sustainable development and respect for the environment are clear aims at Fuerte Hoteles. Most of the hotels have obtained the ISO 14001 environmental management certification, which has meant significant investment in both resources and training for all staff through awareness programmes on the need for ‘environmentally responsible’ behaviour.
