ECOLOGICAL FEATURES IN THE CONSTRUCTION
HOTEL FUERTE EL ROMPIDO (EL ROMPIDO, CARTAYA, HUELVA)
1) Porches, arcades, inner patios, landscaped areas, pergolas …., typical and traditional features of the Andalusian Popular Architecture which give the complex thermal regulators which soften the difference in temperature inside the hotel and at the same time increase the possibility of usage of the adjacent areas when creating microclimates which help the use of same.
2) The existence of landscaped inner patios allows the natural ventilation of the rooms when maintenance and housekeeping works are been carried out, making the most of the Venturi Effect.
3) The renewal of the air is guarantied in the main lobby in a total natural way since it has been designed following bioclimatic principles. Its triple height and the layout of hollows in certain areas make it easy for the air masses to circulate in a vertical way.
4) Earth coming from the excavation prior to the construction has been used for landscaping, this way creating organic features allowing the landscaping integration of the complex. Likewise the wood cut from the eucalyptus located on the plot has been used for carpentry purposes.
5) 100% ecological waterproofing systems are used in the foundations: natural sodium bentonite panels.
6) Shuttering removal systems based on vegetal oils guaranty a toxic fumes free process.
7) Building base built with lighten large bricks made of expanded clay, allowing light structures with a high insulation power.
8) For the façades mineral paints based on silicates, instead of plastic paints, so avoiding the emission of unhealthy volatile organic compounds.
9) Totally watertight and waterproofed carpentry fitted with double glassing with thermal and solar control and a high acoustic insulation, so allowing the thermal comfort desired and the logical energy saving.
10) Electric transformation centre with dry insulation, oil free and protected against the emission of electromagnetic radiations.
11) High safety and fire resistant electric piping, free of halogens.
12) Toilet cisterns fitted with water saving systems, so avoiding uncontrolled water consumption.
13) Polypropylene and polyethylene water pipes.
14) Solar panels used for sanitary water heating as well as for the heated swimming pool. This way the solar possibilities of the area are fully used and the energy saving is remarkably increased. Such solar panels will be made without black chrome, which is highly polluting, so confirming the certain ecological vocation involved in this kind of systems.

18) Special attention is given to design, composition and selection of materials for indoor spaces, to ensure the same are 'healthy' and comfortable. This is why we have mixed popular architectural elements with modern techniques which increase their benefits: clay and stone floors give freshness to the warm summer nights, natural fibre carpets eliminate the cold in winter months, French shutters stopping the direct solar radiation, natural paints allowing the walls 'breathing' without adding harmful substances to the environment, woods which control humidity in a natural way,…
19) Wicker and wood furniture give warmness indoor without diminishing the comfort for clients. Soft colours giving calmness and create neutral atmospheres together with indoor gardening elements which oxygenate the atmosphere in a natural way.
20) Anyway we aim for the ergonomy to improve the client's comfort: no low seats and tables, no soft and deep seats either which increase bad postures; special attention is given to the necessary lighting level in each case, avoiding flashes and fitting lanterns of reflected lights.
21) The bedroom design, when making the most important room in a hotel, is carried out following economy, simplicity and modesty features, so that the client feels himself in a healthy and cosy atmosphere; synthetic carpets and conventional conglomerate closets are not used; on the contrary timber, plain plaster and matting are used. The conglomerate furniture used are of the type E1, with few formaldehydes.
22) Xerogardening techniques are used for both indoor and outdoor landscaping: authocthonous plants and other plants strongly adapted to ensure both adaptation and avoiding the rising of plagues and deceases; located watering system so avoiding uncontrolled water consumption, combining vegetables species with other non vegetable elements, so giving outdoor areas a bigger functionality, …
