Hotel El Fuerte hosts talks between Mario Vargas Llosa and Alfredo Montagne
Last Friday 3rd of August, Mario Vargas Llosa and Alfredo Montagne spoke about “Architecture and Life” at the Hotel El Fuerte, as part of the cultural activities organised by the Marbella Branch of Ateneo de Malaga.
Since it was created a year and a half ago, Ateneo de Marbella has organised monthly exhibitions, conferences, concerts and many other types of events to promote culture and cultural awareness, regardless of cultural fields and nationalities, all of which are open to the public.
On this occasion the two great friends, writer Mario Vargas Llosa and the architect Alfredo Montagne, talked about the relationship between architecture, represented by Montagne, and life, represented by Vargas Llosa. Master of Ceremonies was the Marbella journalist Miguel Nieto, and Mario Vargas Llosa presented Montagne’s book “Architecture”.
Hotel El Fuerte is the usual location for the concerts and conferences organised by the Marbella Branch of Ateneo de Malaga. Since its creation, the relationship between both sides has been excellent, and the friends of El Ateneo consider El Fuerte to be ‘home’.
El Ateneo Marbella
El Ateneo de Marbella was created in April 2006 as an extension of Ateneo de Malaga, which was founded on the 16th of December 1966, on the initiative of a group of citizens with a passion for Science, the Arts and Literature. Its aim is to promote culture and awareness of all cultural realms, without the limitations of different fields or nationalities. As part of their desire to contribute to cultural development in the city, Ateneo de Marbella organises all types of activities including conferences, contests, exhibitions, discussions, etc. Recently, figures as highly regarded as Arcadi Espada (journalist), Peter Viertel (script writer) or Marta Rivera (Finalist in the last Planeta Award) have been invited.
Grupo el Fuerte
At this moment in time, Grupo el Fuerte has six hotels in Spain, located in Marbella, Conil, El Rompido and Grazalema; there is a hotel in the Mayan Riviera, and the Hotel Secrets Montego Bay in Jamaica is currently being built. With regard to property and real estate, the Group has the Calaceite Residential Estate in Torrox, while the All Suites Hotel Fuerte la Herradura in Almuñecar is expected to open in 2009. Grupo el Fuerte also owns the Design and Interior Design Studio EID, created in response to meeting the demand at Fuerte Hoteles. Finally, la Fundación Fuerte (Fuerte Foundation) aims to collaborate in solving social problems in the area.
Grupo el Fuerte is mainly known for the excellent quality of its tourist services, its respect for the environment and the continuous training of its staff, along with its friendly welcome, fantastic location, wonderful food and regard for history.
50th Anniversary
In 2007 Grupo el Fuerte is celebrating its 50th anniversary, so there are weekly cocktail parties in the Group’s hotels by way of celebration. Along with these are the organ concert that took place on June 15th in the Iglesia de la Encarnación Church in Marbella, a party on the 4th of July in Hotel El Fuerte and an exhibition of paintings planned for October. El Grupo has also published a book recounting its history together with that of Marbella.
