Conil. Recommended itineraries. Routes.
Conil can boast some impressive monuments and fantastic architecture
from centuries past. The old town has been declared a monument of art
and architecture of great historical interest.
In summer months, the tourism office organizes special
routes around the casco antiguo, old town, of Conil. The
aim of the tour is to showcase the historic, architectural
and artistic heritage of Conil, something often
forgotten, even by its inhabitants.
From the office of tourism, the routes head towards the
mirador, lookout point, over the river Conilete. You can
also visit the church and hospital of the Misericordia,
built in the 18th century and used as a refuge for the
poor.

From here the route passes down to Calle
Virgen, passing the ducal seat of the Mesón del
Duque, and arrives at the Plaza de la Constitución.
The Plaza houses the Iglesia de Santa Catalina, the 16th
century church founded by the fthers of the San Francisco
order los Frailes Mínimos de la Victoria. The Plaza is also the site of the Ayuntamiento building and the El
Portillo archway.
After taking this route, at the Museo de Conil museum
you can explore many of the traditions and customs of the
pueblos around Conil. After a brief break in the gardens
of the church of Santa Catalina, the route continues to
the Torre de Guzmán. This is virtually the only
remaining part of the ancient castle built in the 14th
century. It was later renovated in the 15th century, and
again in the 20th.
