El ROmpido. What to do. Routes
Ruta Colombina (Columbus route). The key historic
destination in Huelva province is just south of the capital at La Rábida,
universally known for its role as the port of departure in Cristóbal
Cólon’s discovery of the New World. The place itself, a meeting
point for various cultures - Tartessian, Phoenician, Roman and Arabic – seems
to have been predestined to serve as the cradle of the greatest adventure
of all time.
Ruta Aventura y Minas (adventure and mines). One
of the most remarkable and geographically striking unknown routes in our
province is the Route that takes in the mines and surrounding industry
of the Río Tinto river north of the capital. It’s a region
marked by its mining industry and has pursued the trade for its 5,000
years of history and exploitation of its mineral wealth. Today, and following
a drop in demand for the distinct minerals mined here (such as its famed
zinc), it has turned its attentions towards a new resource, developing
tourism in its landscape and industrial heritage, which due to their over-mining
are unique in the world.

Ruta de la Sierra.
Following a long route through the north of the province,
to the west of the Sierra Morena, around the towns of Cortegana
and Aracena. This region has always held a strong attraction
to various cultures from around the Mediterranean due to
its rich mineral deposits.
Ruta de la Costa. From the mouths
of the river Guadíana to the Guadalquivir, the Atlantic
coast of Huleva dreams of a past full of history and legend.
Vast beaches of smooth white sands, hemmed by green pine
forests and the green-tinged blue of the Atlantic Ocean. |
