La Herradura. Beaches

La Costa Tropical takes its name from the gentle micro-climate found there which ensures mild winters and makes it a great place to be all year round.

Surrounded by the peaks of the Sierra Nevada and caressed by the warm North African winds, this place is one of the most unspoilt on the whole of the extensive Andalusian coastline.

This coastline is home to several municipalities but Almuñecar, which has struck the perfect balance between the beauty of nature and man-made development, leads them all.

Playa de los Berengueles

A great place for diving and one of the most beautiful coves on the coast can be found at the Marina del Este. The beach has areas with fine sand and coarser sand. About 100 metres long.

Playa Herradura

This is the most traditional beach in the area. Flanked by the Punta de la Mona and Cerro Gordo hills, the sand here is medium-coarse and home to a multitude of water sports with one of the best scuba-diving centres.
About 2,100 metres long.

Playa de Calaiza

This beach is made up of a succession of small and hard to reach coves, meaning there are very few bathers here.

CantarijÁn Naturist Beach

A naturist beach taking its name from the ravine that flows into it.It has a variety of sand and it’s the most westerly of the Almuñecar - La Herradura beaches.
About 350 metres long.

Playa del muerto

Roughly 280 metres long, this beach is hard to access, butyou can get there by sea or over the rocks - a route that shows the beauty of the landscape. The sand is medium-coarse and light in colour.

Playa de Cotobro

A tourist beach through and through, with a great variety of restaurants and bars.At about 400 metres long, it forms an elegant bay with coarse, light-coloured sand.

Playa de San Cristóbal

This beach has pale, semi-coarse sand and is a tourist magnet with its 100 metres packed with restaurants and hotels. At the end it becomes known as the Playa de la China.

Playa Puerta del Mar

Located in the centre of Almuñecar, it’s the most crowded because of its proximity to the town and nightlife. The sand is semi-coarse and dark and the beach itself is about 800 metres long.

Playa de Velilla

The longest and best known in Almuñecar, it’s about 1,400 metres long and is one of the most crowded beaches.

Playa de El Tesorillo

A small cove around 90 metres long, this is an extremely beautiful beach and great for younger visitors. Its name comes from the fact that in days of old, significant numbers of golden coins were washed up there.

Playa del Pozuelo

About 280 metres long, this shallow beach is ideal for kids.

Playa Calabajio

Another small, shallow beach that is ideal for kids but also in an extremely beautiful location, formed by a beautiful cove.

Playa de Cabria

Playa Cabria
About 250 metres long, this beautiful and peaceful cove has areas with fine and semi-coarse sand.

Playa Curumbico

A small cave around 120 metres long, which is ideal for kids but hard to reach – either by sea or over the stones from the Cabria Beach.

Playa del Barranco de Enmedio

A small beach around 140 metres long, it’s the last one in the municipality of Almuñecar and can be accessed by a dirt track.
